3-Day Adventure Safari and Cultural Discovery Tour
This tour is your chance to have a lot of fun with fellow volunteers and visit some exciting spots, including community-based ecotourism projects where the money you spend really makes a difference!
We start our tour from Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region. Departure is at 9 am so you should plan to come to Tamale one day earlier if you are travelling from further away.
During the whole tour you will be transported in your own vehicle so no need to worry about public transport. Our first stop is Sognayilli, a pro-poor tourism project close to Tamale. Here you can learn how to make Kuli-Kuli, give a traditional baby massage, hike to the holy shrines and much more.
In the cool of the afternoon you arrive in Mole and you will have a walking safari in the park with the possibility of viewing many different animals.
For dinner it is up to you if you want to give yourself a treat at the restaurant in the Mole Motel, or if you want to go local and safe money at the staff canteen. Therefore, dinner is not included in the price.
The evening will be spent at Mognori eco-village and you will sleep in authentic local homes to get the chance to experience real village life. The best thing about Mognori is that the profits they make are used for community development – this is much needed because the residents here are nearly totally cut off from their traditional source of income, the National Park.
After breakfast in Mognori you get the chance to discover more about this village on a village walk. Then you will go on a canoe safari into the national park. Lunch will be taken in Mole, either at the Motel or at the staff canteen. In the afternoon, you will have free time. Tired of the hot weather? Take a dip in the pool – while doing this you can even watch animals. You can then go on a driving safari, which is not included, or just continue relaxing at the pool and spend the time with the other volunteers.
After breakfast one other attraction of Northern Ghana awaits you: the centuries old Larabanga mosque. You will be back in Tamale in time for the evening STC bus to Accra.
