Our first stop could be Adanwomase, the home of quality kente cloth and culture. You will interact with the local people to learn more about their culture. The entire community benefits from the proceeds of this tourist attraction. Kente production is complex, and the resulting product is a beautiful cloth widely considered to be a cultural symbol and source of pride, both for Ghanaians and the African Diaspora. The cloth is worn and used by Ashanti royals, in worship, birth, marriage and death ceremonies. Kente cloth continues to chronicle local history and knowledge. Designs have specific names and meanings that reflect cultural values and historical events.

Itinerary

This tour stops in three craft villages. Learn about the centuries-old Kente weaving tradition in Adanwomase. You will meet master weavers and have the opportunity to try your hands at thread spinning, wrapping and weaving. You will learn about Adanwomase’s history and culture by visiting the Chief’s palace, the traditional healer’s shrine, the first Adanwomase house, cocoa farms and a forest shrine. Witness a drumming and dancing troop and storytelling.

We will also visit Ahwiaa, where the fertility doll and woodcarvings are manufactured. Be prepared to bargain for a fair price.

At Ntonso we will learn about the making of the traditional funeral clothing called Adinkra, which also means farewell. See how wooden stamps in the shape of Adinkra symbols are dipped in the black die from tree bark and stamped on strips of fabric.

You will travel back with your own handcrafted art piece.
