Departure Dates For This Trip is SECOND (2ND) Wednessday And THIRD Saturday Of Every Month.Effective September,2012 - May 2013

This trip is a great way to get out of the city for a weekend and experience a little bit of an area not heavily visited by tourists yet in Ghana, but a well-kept secret of Ghanaian’s for weekend holidays. A great time to take this trip is the first week of August to coincide with the Asafotufiami Festival, which celebrates military traditions in the community.  This starts on the first Thursday of August with a house cleaning ceremony, which is combined with plenty of akpeteshie (distilled palm wine) libations.  Friday starts with drumming and young men learning how to use ceremonial muskets and the art of ancient warfare.  At sunset volleys are shot into the air at riverside before the men cleanse themselves in the river.  Parties then proceed most of the night with the big chiefs Dubar on Saturday morning and festivities all day with plenty of dancing, drumming, food and drink.

Itinerary

Day 1:  In the morning you will leave the city behind driving out of Accra to the east through the rolling hills.  At about lunch time you will get to Sogakope where you will enjoy a lunch at Villa Cisneros, which can include ostrich steaks from a local ostrich farm.  There will be a little time after lunch to check out the pottery market, where they are known for producing wonderful painted pottery.  From there you will back track a little way back the way you came and take a side road to Ada Foah, where you will check into  a  Beach Resort a little down the beach from Ada Foah.  Here you can spend your afternoon enjoying the beach and sunset.

Day 2:  In the morning after enjoying a lovely outdoor breakfast, you will take a canoe to Crocodile Island, which is an island in the mouth of the Volta River.  Here you will be able to check out the basket weaving industry, and there are always great opportunities for bird watching on the island.  The people of the island are also said to be prime palm wine distillers, and you can experience the process and the product if you are brave.  Spend the rest of the afternoon on the beach.  After sunset take a walk on the beach with a guide, if you are lucky you can witness sea turtles nesting on the beach.

Day 3:  Spend the morning enjoying breakfast and tea along with the beach a little longer.  Early afternoon you will depart and drive for about 15 minutes to the nearby Ramsar Lagoon.  The lagoon is a great place to view an abundant amount of birds wintering from Europe and even birds that stay all year round.  After enjoying the birds or just relaxing for a little while on the viewing platforms it will be time to return to Accra arriving in the evening for the end of your tour.
